WELS Web site for parents
Parents Crosslink, the quarterly, print newsletter and its companion Web site, have come into being through the partnership of several Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) groups. In 2003, the WELS Commission on Youth Discipleship applied for and was awarded a grant from the WELS Publication Coordinating Commission, to develop a pilot website for parents and a place where family and parenting resources in WELS and beyond could be showcased. As part of the pilot development, representatives from various WELS entities with an interest in family and parenting ministry (WELS Parish Services, Northwestern Publishing House, Christian Life Resources, Wisconsin Lutheran Child and Family Service, WELS Web Services) were brought together for initial brainstorming. From that meeting a smaller working group was created made up of representatives from WELS Youth and Adult Discipleship, Parish Schools, Web Services, and Northwestern Publishing House. The working group crafted the plan to develop the Web site along with a companion print newsletter of the same name. Each would support the other, sharing content, offering additional resources, and hopefully facilitating connections between parents, both WELS and non-WELS. The Web site would be open to anyone and free. The newsletter would be sold through individual and bulk subscriptions. Parents Crosslink was selected as the name for both the Web site and the newsletter because of the desire to use both to link parents to each other and the cross of Christ. After two years of intense effort, Parents Crosslink was launched in the fall of 2005. The Web site is managed by WELS-CYD and the newsletter is produced by NPH. A "concepting team" meets regularly to develop content for both the print and Web parts of Parents Crosslink.
